Career Highlights:
-11.5 years of experience overall
-4.5 years of experience teaching in International schools. 3 of those years are in IB schools as a PYP teacher. Grades taught range from 5th to 8th grade.
-2 years of experience teaching first-year University students in China.
-4 years of experience teaching Pre-K students (4 and 5-year-olds) in Washington DC.
-1 year of volunteer experience teaching adults in an ESL class in Maine, USA.
-Overall, in those 11.5 years, I have taught in Maine and Washington DC, USA, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, and China.
-I have 2 years of Cambridge PET experience where 40 out of my 41 students passed the test on their first attempt, many with merits.
-I have 6 months of TOEFL Junior experience where 95% of my students passed on their first attempt.
-I won a History High Achievement Award in my Junior year of High School and know a lot about Ancient Civilizations.

-I prefer to lessen "teacher-talk" time and encourage students to take risks and spend as much time talking as possible about topics of interest. I pause at certain times to make corrections.
-I prefer to utilize online platforms in an effective, efficient manner (example: IXL) to help students improve their skills.
-It is important to connect lessons with real-world examples and I also believe in making sure students have a solid foundation of vocabulary and heavily focus on building it by at least 10-20 words per week.
-I try to find out your Lexile, which is basically a score that shows your ability to comprehend text. The higher the score, the more complicated the text you can read. I assign relevant text based on student interest, as well as Lexile level. Example: If your Lexile level is 700 and you like animals, I might assign a Lexile level text of 750 (to challenge you a little and slowly increase your ability) relating to that topic. I encourage students to read out loud so I can listen for pronunciation and help with new words, as well as ask follow up questions that ensure understanding and create oral conversation after reading.
